Suzuki Piano Lessons
Certified Suzuki Piano Teacher
Master musician, Shinichi Suzuki once stated,
"Music ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be deve loped. The potential in every child is unlimited."
This same philosophy has been the foundation of Tina's learning, training, and teaching over the years. A native to Toronto, Tina was immersed in music from birth. At age four, she began playing piano under the careful guidance of skilled instructors Maureen McReynolds and Elizabeth Sherk at the North York Suzuki School of Music. Tina enjoyed her studies thoroughly, further developing her passion for piano. She shared her skills early on while employed with the City of Toronto and continues a most successful teaching career. As well, Tina has performed at numerous functions and recitals.
The Suzuki Method has always been of fundamental importance. Like Suzuki, Tina constantly strives to 'nurture' all her students through their music studies to develop sensitivity, patience, discipline, virtue and love. Tina stresses how environment in class, at home, and in the world at large, all play a key role in educating and developing a fine human spirit.
Tina is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. She continues to develop her musical and teaching acumen by studying under the decorated Gail Lange, who is one of Canada's most experienced Suzuki piano teachers, as well as Aubrey Faith-Slaker, a acknowledged Suzuki piano teacher from Chicago, and the honourable Suzuki teacher Caroline Fraser.
Tina embodies professionalism and the many fine virtues that she desires to instil in all of her students. Like Suzuki, Tina's ultimate goal is to "educate children to become a better person, a little happier" and through music studies in her studio, help them develop a 'beautiful heart'.
6 Week Summer
Suzuki Introduction Lessons
What Do I Receive?
A reserved 45 minute weekly individualized Suzuki lesson.
Parents are to attend and observe in each lesson so to be able to assist with home practice. Time is first spent with your child at the piano, working to develop the necessary skills to keep moving forward in progression. The end of the lesson is spent with you, the parent at the piano to go over the new practice assignments and prepare for what is to come.
Are Parents Involved?
Yes, absolutely! You get a chance to observe your child develop a new skill within our lesson time, as well as learn alongside your child, building strong relationships and lifelong memories.
Do I need anything before starting lessons?
Yes, you will need at home access to a digital piano or acoustic piano in order to see the progress take place.
As listening is a key part of learning to play by ear, I will work with you to find the best setup for playing the recordings in your home daily.
How will my child be learning?
Focus is first placed on playing technique and developing sound quality for each hand. Also, your child will develop the ability to play many pieces by ear. Later on, we develop the ability to decode the written music/score. This is similar to how we all first learn to speak and then later learn to read, making this learning method both natural and enjoyable.
I don’t have any musical background, will this be an issue?
Absolutely not. You will get to learn alongside your child, developing both yourself and your child along the way.
What are some other skills my child will learn within the Suzuki method?
